Dermaplaning Consultation and Consent Form

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that brightens and gives the skin an instant glow. A sterile scalpel is used to gently and safely remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin (epidermis). This non-invasive treatment leaves the skin more receptive to serums and moisturisers, therefore increasing cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin, for a more youthful and rejuvenated complexion. An added bonus to this treatment is the removal of the vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the surface of the skin. This gives a silky look that allows make-up to be applied flawlessly. The treatment is pain-free and many clients have reported it is as a calm, relaxing experience. Dermaplaning does not alter the structure of the hair. Hair growth will return as it was before the treatment and will not grow back faster and thicker.
Benefits of Dermaplaning:
- Removal of dead skin cells
- Increases cell turnover (increased collagen production)
- Instantly reveals brighter, glowing skin with minimal downtime
- Soft skin
- Removes vellus hair (peach fuzz)
- Aids product absorption by up to 70%, allowing serums and moisturisers to reach the lower layers of the skin and be more effective
- Make-up glides on and sits on the skin smoothly
- Unclogs pores
You can benefit from a one-off treatment for a special occasion or have a course of treatments as part of your regular skincare regime.
Before Dermaplaning:
- Do not use sunbeds on the day of the treatment and for up to 7 days after.
- Arrive to your appointment make-up free or with as little make-up as possible - The face will be cleansed and prepped as part of the treatment; however, removing excess make-up and stubborn eye make-up will eat into the treatment time, meaning less time for the Dermaplaning.
Possible Risks and Side Effects
Redness
You may experience redness or feel like your skin is scraped in the 2 to 3 days right after the procedure.
Bleeding
Bleeding is possible as the treatment involves the use of a sharp surgical blade. Cuts are extremely rare and more annoying than painful.
Dryness
Your practitioner will take every precaution to ensure that your skin is well hydrated and calm following each session. However, you may experience dryness or even some peeling between sessions.
Abrasions
Dermaplaning may cause minor superficial abrasions - which may not appear until a day or two following your treatment. If this should occur, please contact your practitioner so that we can arrange a post-treatment follow up with you.
Please read carefully.
Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser.
You’ll want to cleanse your face gently immediately after dermaplaning. A gentle cleanser will remove any debris or residue left behind on the skin’s surface. Avoid using harsh or abrasive cleansers, which can irritate the skin.
Apply a hydrating serum or face oil.
Dermaplaning can leave your skin feeling a bit dry and sensitive. To combat this, apply a hydrating serum or face oil to help nourish and protect the skin.
After your treatment, follow a simple skincare routine.
For two weeks following your treatment, stick to a simple skincare routine. That means using a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum or face oil, and sunscreen every day. Avoid any other treatments or products that could irritate the skin.
Use SPF.
It’s important to use sunscreen after dermaplaning since your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and apply it every day, even if you’re just spending time indoors.
Do not wear any makeup for 24 hours.
You’ll want to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning. This will give your skin time to heal and recover from the treatment.
Avoid touching your face.
Touching your face can introduce bacteria to the skin and cause irritation. So, it’s best to avoid touching your face as much as possible after dermaplaning.
Avoid using harsh skincare products.
Harsh skincare products, such as retinoids or glycolic acids, can irritate the skin after dermaplaning. If you use these products, wait at least a day or two before using them again after your treatment.
Avoid chlorine and swimming pools.
Chlorinated water can dry out and irritate the skin. So, it’s best to avoid swimming in pools or other bodies of chlorinated water for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning. You can shower normally after your treatment.
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. This is especially important after dermaplaning since your skin will be more prone to dryness.
Get plenty of rest and relaxation.
Taking some time to relax and de-stress can do wonders for your skin. Consider taking a relaxing bath or reading a good book to help your skin recover from dermaplaning.
Always seek medical advice if you have any concerns or complications, as well as informing your practitioner.
